Cover Versions
Just to give you an idea of what’s possible – this little gem from @craigfots of Friends of the Stars:
Who will cover what song? Suggestions here please – either for songs to be covered – or bands to cover them…

I think I’d like to give a UB40 track a go.
‘I can’t help falling in love’
That’ll be interesting

Hey James..Jez turned me onto the brummusicmonth initiative via TWITTER..we are back in Brum for a few weeks between tours..maybe I could make something available for remix if you are serious..I know we would be more interested in using an original tune BUT i can see why you would want to mix a tune like ‘Cant Help Falling in Love’
Of course it means me putting the idea to the guys first.. I can but ask the question…I personally would rather be at the party than stuck outside looking in…Im all for collaborative partnerships..especially in the Holy City…Anyway, it may be prudent for you to tell me what format you would want ‘a multitack’ so I can inquire as to wether or not its possible…its a BEAUTIFUL sunny day here in Birmingham so I won’t spend it looking at a computer screen.

I was reading the REMIXERS topic and scrolled down missing the covers version heading…

Hi Brian, to be honest, a remix would be much better suited to me, than a cover, and I’d be honoured to give a UB40 track a go. In terms of multitrack format, just pure wave files would be best, but a logic or pro tools project would be fine too.
If there’s another track you’d like to hear remixed over ‘can’t help falling in love’ I’d be more than happy to do it, it’s just the tune I know best.
by the way THANKS for replying
James

If where did I go wrong is an original I’d be up for that, sweet tune
James Welch 9:34 pm on May 21, 2009 Permalink |
Ideally if there’s a vocalist who’d be up for a scratchy, lo-fi, electronic version that would be great

Hi James..OK..I’ll go ask the question tomorrow Thursday 30th….I shall see what’s what and providing I get a positive reaction from the guys seek out WAVS etc..Until I heard from you I wasn’t going to even ask the question..We are in the middle of recording a new album right now so it may take a few days to get back to you…Leave it with me…thanks for getting back..just a thought, it might be good to get some young vocalists involved to sing the tune..a proper collaboration between UB40 and Birminghams finest….just an idea.. I would very much like to hear the Destroyers funk it up with some classic Sam and Dave / Kool and the Gang etc..
Jon Bounds 3:32 pm on May 27, 2009 Permalink |
Sam and Dave / Kool and the Gang aren’t Brum music — is there a brumfunk outfit they should be covering?
brian Travers 6:00 pm on May 27, 2009 Permalink
What about the Climax Blues Band…Local’ish boys almost…from Stafford..brummie outskirts of town..Worldwide number one hit with ‘ Couldn’t get it right ‘
